We’re still doing some investigation here, but we’ve spotted a bug attempting to upload files into the Media Library for sites where the Theme has been customized. First suspicions about this being a browser-specific issue proved incorrect.
Symptom: Hit the insert media icon
in your post editor. Absolutely nothing happens. You’re supposed to see a 3-tabbed dialogue showing [From Computer | From Site | From URL].
My scenario was attempting to insert a large FLV already inserted into the Media Library.
This post at CommunityServer dev forums pointed directly at an issue within Themed sites.
Fix: Copy the existing Themes/Hawaii/Utility/insertmedia.aspx to [yourtheme]/Utility/
We have never edited insertmedia.aspx, so have some suspicions that this crept into our site(s) through a rogue file in an upgrade or service pack. (In other words, it wasn’t us Guv!).
Using the Insert Media dialogue
With our original Hawaii insertmedia.aspx installed we’re ready to insert a file from local, from site or from a URL (such as YouTube).
If loading From Site there are some tricks to finding your files. The blue hyperlink only selects that Media branch level. This does not expand any sub-folders under your selection.
You have to click exactly on the solid right arrow » to expand your branch. Then click on the blue hyperlink level to see files at that level.
Max Width and Max Height seem a little hit and miss – my entered sizes were just ignored on entry at this dialogue box, and still wrong when posted. Ah well.
I added “:450:300” to the end of my media string in the format shown below:
“View:/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Components.PostAttachments/00.00.09.49.47/Mark-Anderson-on-Obama-Stimulas-Plan.flv:450:300”
[] Square brackets replaced with quotes “” from this media string above.
